OK – so I’m going to take a stab at what’s in those cups…

Stalin’s slaughtering the Stolichnaya

Castro’s cruisin’ on Cognac

Lenin’s living it up on Laphroaig

The Helmsman’s getting hammered on homemade hooch

And Marx has an empty popcorn bucket on his head… I mean, who needs booze when they live in Utopia?

You missed one very important ingredient: Girls.

It is well known and well documented that there are (not just were) girls in these parties. Officials, these girls would "dance" with the leaders, and "entertain" them afterwards. They are all "volunteers" from local performance art groups and schools. During early years of the PRC, these are daily parties - for the "relaxation" of the leaders. Most of them didn't bring their spouse, except Zhou Enlai, who had no choice. Zhou would be the first one to leave, and the real party started.

Hi,whoever you are. I am just passing by and reading some of your articles. And I am greatly shocked to find out that you paid so much attention to China's dark side with its bright side just before your eyes.
Yeah, I have to admit that some places in Shanghai isn't that fabulous than you think they are, but i wondering whether NY is so clean that you cannot find any litter around somewhere in the street.my point is that this is part of being a city that full of 17000,000 people.
And about the harmonious society? The banner just being hold on because it reflected people's hope for a more peaceful world, which now is clashing by the irresponsible country that just interfere others! All those things your friend had experienced could happen in any city.
So, i just think that you should view things in a different way, maybe a brighter way.
