TIANJIN - We know that visas are being restricted, airport checked luggage is being searched on arrival, subway stations in Beijing feature security guards sifting through bags, and anti-aircraft missiles are installed around the Bird's Nest stadium.

Now we discover that even if you're simply dropping off a pal at the airport prior to a flight, you'll have your stuff checked by security, too.

The China Civil Aviation Administration has announced that security checks will begin at several airports starting on July 20.  Everyone who enters the terminal will have their bags checked at the entrance, even people who aren't boarding flights.  Passengers will be checked a second time prior to boarding.

The new measures will be implemented at the following airports:
  • Beijing Capital
  • Shijiazhuang
  • Hohhot
  • Hongqiao (Shanghai)
  • Pudong (Shanghai)
  • Taiyuan
  • Dalian
  • Tianjin
  • Qingdao
  • Shenyang
  • Jinan
  • Hangzhou
  • Nanjing
  • Hefei
  • Qinghuangdao
  • Changchun
  • Haerbin
  • Xinjiang (all airports)
  • Tibet (all airports)
