Apple is finally - officially - in China.  The new Apple store opened this past weekend in Beijing's new Village at Sanlitun, and judging by the crowds inside, the store should prove to be successful.

BEIJING - It's a dream come true for Apple computer fanatics (and I don't use that term lightly, especially when it comes to users of Apple gadgets).

Apple has just opened its first official store in China, in Beijing's new Sanlitun Village.  Now customers can have more confidence in the authenticity of their Apple products purchased in China (although the iPhones and iPod Touches in the markets seem fine, according to first-hand accounts).

I am personally not an Apple computer user, although I've been considering taking the plunge for many months. I currently run a HP Windows Vista machine and in all honesty, I'm not sure why Vista gets such a bad name - it has caused me practically zero problems.  Still, there is something sleek and sexy about a MacBook computer, so much so that my girlfriend just bought one and refuses to let me even touch it.

The new store is huge, and offers the usual Apple gear and services.  I was surprised at the high level of English proficiency in the store, and the general helpfulness of staff.  All the main Apple products are on display and ready for people to try.

To coincide with Apple’s grand China opening, it will be holding a number of performances and events. There are also a number of workshops for Apple newbies.

Keep in mind that prices of Apple products in China are still higher than found elsewhere.  We saved about RMB 2,000 having a relative buy a MacBook in Canada and bring it to China.
