BEIJING - A worldwide theatre phenomenon has been underway since a group of people organized a "freeze" at New York's Grand Central Station, which involved freezing in time for the bemusement and befuddlement of passers-by.
Similar events (apparently, over 40) have been held worldwide, including in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. The videos for each are below.
Guangzhou is the latest city to host a freeze, and the organizers are looking for people to participate. It will take place on Sunday October 19, but details remain hush-hush for security reasons. If you're interested in participating, you can sign up at www.gzfreeze.com.
In the meantime, check out videos from other events below. The first one occurred in New York, and was organized by the group Improv Everywhere. The YouTube video has already been viewed over 13 million times:

This really looks like fun!!! I wish I were living in GZ right now so I could participate.
I hope one day a global freeze event could be possible... but then again, not everyone would see the point to it---so I'm betting it would be hard to advocate and coordinate a global freeze. But still, it's all artistic and fascinating. Thanks for the informative post! :) |
