I received a fake FA76 20 from a CBD Starbucks here in Beijing last week. When I tried to use it at a grocery store, they pointed out it was fake. The Starbucks was really cool about it, refunding my 20 and giving me a free drink. The fake bill felt like really cheap paper and didn't have any of the security features. It's easy to spot if you are paying attention, but who has time to examine each bill when a line is forming behind you?

Exactly, especially for smaller notes. Not all stores are like starbucks, I've seen people fighting with store owners for fake notes given to them, however, either of them should take the responsiblity. People will end up trying to spend the fake notes in veg market or street vendors. A vicious cycle!

I got an FE38 fake 20, a XB81 fake 100 both a couple of years ago. I was just passed a FA74 fake 50 this weekend. They're all pretty cheap paper, but fairly good printing/watermarks. I got the 20 and 50 from taxis at night but have no idea where I go the 100--I only get 100's from either bank of China or the ATM!
