Blogroll

Zhongnanhai has compiled this blogroll in consultation with our writers.  While all of us read dozens and dozens of blogs each day, we will only list what we consider to be the best blogs focusing on China.

Here they are, in no particular order:

Danwei

A site focusing on "media, advertising, and urban life in China".  Danwei features translations of news from the Chinese media, job postings, TV programs, and news on technology.

East South West North

Roland Soong runs, perhaps, China's most-read blog site.  The prolific Hong Kong-based blogger offers a selection of translations from the Chinese-language press.

Imagethief

A blog largely focusing on PR issues related to China.  Run by Will Moss, the blog features creative and compelling writing, and often looks at the lighter-side of life in China.

China Law Blog

China's top legal blog is run by Dan Harris and Steve Dickinson from Harris & Moure, pllc.  This blog covers topics such as joint-ventures, investment, business, and informative posts on China's evolving legal code.

Shanghaiist

A city-blog run by Dan Washburn and part of the Gothamist network.  Shanghaiist features the latest restaurant reviews, entertainment, and news from Shanghai.

Black and White Cat

This is a blog run by a long-time CCTV employee (and in the interest of full disclosure, a friend -- but make no mistake, this blog is listed here on its merits).  Black and White Cat often features translations from the Chinese media and BBSs.

China Rises:  Notes from the Middle Kingdom

A blog run by McClatchy journalist Tim Johnson.  Tim, who is based in Beijing, posts frequently about his experiences covering stories in China as a foreign correspondent.

East-West Station

A blog written by an English-teacher in Dalian.  It is characterized by creative writing from a blogger who has lived in various places in Asia.  Unfortunately, it is not updated very frequently.

Peking Duck

One of China's oldest and most popular blogs.  Lead by Richard, it features posts on life in China and links to articles on Chinese and US news.  Also has lively comment threads.

James Fallows

A writer for The Atlantic who now resides in Beijing.  He frequently posts about China and technology issues.

Jottings from the Granite Studio

A history blog run by Jeremiah Jenne, who is based in Beijing.

Telegraph Blogs: Richard Spencer

Richard is the China correspondent for the Daily Telegraph.  His blog often features in-depth analysis of stories and how they are covered in China.

ChinaSMACK

Translations from popular Chinese BBSs and news websites.  Several stories are of the sensational variety, and provide a much-needed glimpse into what Chinese are talking about.
